Minor imperfections in the skin, such as brown spots, wrinkles, acne scars, and sun damage can be improved with SmartXide Tetra fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing. At Dermatology + Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified dermatologist Anita Saluja, MD, and double board-certified plastic surgeon Rebecca Novo, MD, laser skin resurfacing is provided along with other advanced cosmetic treatments for residents of Melbourne, Indialantic, Viera, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Indialantic, Brevard County, and surrounding areas in Central Florida.
Laser skin resurfacing is a safe and effective office treatment that reduces imperfections on the face, neck, chest, hands, and forearms, such as wrinkles, discoloration, surgical or traumatic scars, and acne scars. The SmartXide Tetra CO2 laser is one of the most advanced CO2 technologies available with the ability to perform a broad range of treatments. We select the precise settings needed to customize and optimize treatments to fit each patient’s expectations.
The Tetra CO2 technology uses a scanner that divides the laser beams into precisely controlled shafts of light. These shafts of light penetrate through the epidermis and introduce heat into the sub-dermal layers of the skin. This heat causes skin cells to reproduce more rapidly to heal thus stimulating collagen, reducing wrinkles, removing surface pigmentation, and improving texture. The energy is completely customizable to address a range of severity of aging concerns.
Laser skin resurfacing produces lasting, visible results that significantly improve the health and appearance of your skin. Laser skin resurfacing should be performed in a medical practice by a specialized team. Laser skin resurfacing specifically treats the following conditions:
Laser skin resurfacing is recommended for healthy adults who want to improve lines and wrinkles, sun spots, scars, or other skin imperfections and is safe and effective for adult men and women of any age. Patients should not have any active infection or inflammation at the time of treatment. It is critical to inform us if you have a history of herpes (cold sores or fever blisters). We sometimes advise avoiding laser resurfacing if your skin tone is of a darker complexion due to a higher risk of post-procedure discoloration. We often prefer alternate methods of treatment for darker brown and black skin types so please ask for a personalized consultation.
Laser skin resurfacing takes about a half hour to an hour to complete after preparation time. The skin being treated will be cleansed thoroughly, and a topical anesthetic will be applied for approximately an hour prior to treatment to ensure your comfort. Additional medications can be prescribed for comfort and relaxation as needed, and we also can offer Pronox for any procedural anxiety.
While the procedure itself is very comfortable, you may have a warm sensation in the treated area, similar to an intense sunburn, that typically lasts 1-3 hours from the time of the procedure. Immediately post-procedure our skilled team will apply your post-procedure skin care such as Alastin Skin Renerating Nectar, or your very own plasma-rich fibrin (Selphyl PRF) if you have selected this option to promote healing.
You will apply our post-care skin regimen including Alastin Skin Regenerating Nectar which accelerates your skin’s healing abilities, and Alastin Soothe & Protect Balm which adds a protective hydrating barrier. It is critical to keep the skin hydrated while it heals and strictly avoid any sun exposure. Your skin will be mild to moderately red and swollen. Within a day after laser treatments, the skin may begin to slough off in tiny pixels, a process that may take about five to seven days, depending on the treatment area. (Chest skin typically takes twice as long as face to completely heal). After the initial healing phase your skin may appear pink for up to one to two months as new collagen is forming. This is typically completely concealable with our post-procedure choices of sunscreen: SkinMedica Tinted Essential Defense SPF, or Colorscience All Calm SPF. With laser resurfacing, patients can resume wearing makeup after about 7 to 10 days and must refrain from shaving the treatment area for about 7 to 10 days following the procedure.

The cost of laser skin resurfacing treatment varies according to the size of the treatment area and the number of sessions required to complete treatment. Typically, the cost to treat a face is $2500. Most patients achieve full results after a single session, while others may require multiple treatments. Financing with Alphaeon Credit or Care Credit is available, and our office accepts a variety of payment methods for your convenience.
