Meet Melbourne Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Rebecca Novo
I’m Dr. Novo, and I’m passionate about each patient’s story and their unique journey to reach their goals. I was raised in the close-knit community of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, in the northern part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I was raised by an artist and a physician who cultivated an early passion for artistic expression and sciences. From the age of three, I can remember having my hands in clay in my mother’s in-house ceramic studio. By five, I was interested in my father’s books on anatomy.
I have been taking care of patients for 17 years and performing surgery for 15 years. In college, I was the captain of my successful college basketball team and was awarded a full scholarship throughout university. I was accepted into medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan (my parents’ hometown). After completing medical school, I matched into my top choice for a five-year surgical residency. With legendary names in trauma surgery as teachers, I received intense and thorough training. I was also lucky to meet my husband during my training in Detroit. I was accepted as my first choice for a three-year comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship in Miami, Florida at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Here, I received extensive training in aesthetic procedures of the face, breast, and body while also performing a vast number of reconstructive surgeries for cancer, trauma, and birth defects. Today, I am double-board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and General Surgery.
I love leading with education to help my patients make the best decisions and choices for treatments and procedures. I respect it as a huge investment physically, emotionally, and financially, and I want to help guide you to the best of my ability toward safe and effective treatments and procedures.
I love connecting with patients to earn their trust with honesty and transparency – and truly feel they understand my intentions have the greatest integrity.
The certificate I am most proud of is board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of General Surgery, which require rigorous training, written, oral, and in-person exams, as well as ongoing maintenance of certification of learning and reporting surgical outcomes. While at my fellowship in Miami, I was able to participate in two surgical missions to Port-Au Prince, Haiti, performing numerous surgeries for congenital defects in adults and children. International medicine and charity remain an important part of my passion for medicine.
I love spending time with my kids biking, creating art, and undergoing adventures in our pop-top camper van. I was raised in a very small town where we played outside until dark making tree forts or swimming in the Great Lakes of Michigan. We are adopting our first family pet: Lulu, a Maltipoo! What makes me happy is working hard and sharing positivity and kindness wherever I go – also helping create beauty in the world, whether it’s a beach cleanup, making art, or plastic surgery!
