Weight loss, pregnancy, and other changes can result in weakened abdominal muscles, accumulation of fatty deposits around the lower abdomen, and folds of excess sagging skin below the belly button. A mini tummy tuck eliminates these concerns and rejuvenates the entire lower abdominal region. At Dermatology + Plastic Surgery, led by Rebecca Novo, MD, and board-certified dermatologist Anita Saluja, MD, plastic surgery procedures such as a mini tummy tuck are performed with excellence for residents of Melbourne, Viera, Brevard County, and the surrounding communities of Central Florida.
A mini tummy tuck is a modified version of the conventional tummy tuck procedure but focuses specifically on the area below the belly button, tightening abdominal muscles, lifting the skin so that it becomes smooth and firm, and trimming away excess fat and skin. The mini tummy tuck leaves a single horizontal hairline incision above the pubic area.
A tummy tuck is ideal for individuals who have weak, flaccid abdominal wall muscles and extra fat and loose skin to eliminate. A mini tummy tuck is a less invasive procedure recommended for patients who still retain some strength in the abdominal wall muscle, and who have a smaller amount of fat and skin to eliminate mainly below the belly button. Our team will evaluate your condition and recommend the most suitable procedure for you.
Our team will assess your medical history as well as your condition at your initial consultation. You may have to suspend certain medications in preparation for surgery. Please follow the guidelines given to you during your consultation.
The mini tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that requires anesthesia to ensure maximum comfort. The surgery is performed through a hairline incision that extends horizontally along the lower abdomen above the pubic region. Through this incision, the muscles of the lower abdomen are tightened, and excess fat and skin are trimmed away.
Immediately following surgery, you will be instructed to get up and walk although you may experience some swelling and soreness during this period. You may be required to wear a compression garment to protect the sensitive healing tissue from impact and to help the body adjust to its new contour. Most patients experience a relief of symptoms after two days, as swelling begins to subside and the body becomes stronger. Office work and non-strenuous activities can be resumed after a week, and over the following four to six weeks, you may gradually return to more strenuous activity and regular exercise.
The mini tummy tuck is naturally less costly than the full tummy tuck, but its cost may vary, depending on the amount of fat and skin to be removed, and any other procedures that are performed in combination with it. While most health insurance providers do not cover the mini tummy tuck, our office provides flexible financing and payment options.
